A Letter from the Editor-in-Chief

Dear Subscribers, Contributors, and Friends,

Cover art for the double issue
Being the editor-in-chief of a literary journal often feels like being the designated driver. Sometimes, I wish I was the one playing beer pong and making bad decisions; other times, I find watching my drunk friends’ shenanigans super entertaining. I relish the opportunity to be the observer, to not have to nurse myself well from a hangover the next day, to be the one holding the keys.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, our publication schedule has gone off the rails for the past several issues. Please know that we are working hard to get things back on track. All of us here at Harpur Palate are first and foremost writers ourselves. We know the care and respect we want our own work to be treated with, and we try our very best to treat yours the same way.

As the new editor-in-chief here at Harpur Palate, I’ve been given the keys, and I thank you all for trusting our team with your work. I will drive this bus the best way I know how, and I appreciate your patience as we get our publications back on schedule. A special double issue featuring the Milton Kessler Poetry Prize Winner from issue 16.2 and the John Gardner Fiction Prize Winner from issue 17.1 will be available around the middle of April. Issue 17.2 won’t be far behind. Please check back for updates as I will be posting the firm dates as soon as they are available.

Thank you for your patience and for your continued trust,
Heather Humphrey
